To ensure that Water systems are well maintained and operate at optimum efficiency, the correct water conditions are essential at all times. This can be achieved using carefully selected antifoams and defoamers.

RK Water’s technically advanced antifoaming, defoamer and foam control agents are scientifically formulated to control unwanted foam generation and are ideal for use in a wide range of process applications including wastewater and effluent treatment, steam generation, cooling water systems, distillation and fermentation processes, food processing, sugar manufacturing, paper and paperboard production, plastics, adhesives and more. Our high performance foam control chemical formulations include both food grade and non-food grade antifoams, and silicone and mineral hydrocarbon-based products.

DEFOAMER

RK’s defoamers prevent generation of foams and causes existing foams to rapidly collapse. RKFOAM series of defoamers are either silicon based, non-silicon based or fatty acid based. Silicones’ low surface tension and interfacial properties, combined with their lack of foam-stabilization properties cause the foam wall to thin and collapse. Fatty acid based defoamers are a compositions of a polyether surfactant and a polyhydric alcohol fatty acid ester.

RKFOAM defoamers with different solid content can be used in a wide range of industries.

ANTIFOAM

The foaming tendency of seawater in distillation plants is unpredictable. It is generally thought that foam is formed when organic compounds are concentrated in the brine, giving rise to surface-active effects which increase the liquid film strength at phase interfaces.

During evaporation, RK’s antifoam is incorporated into the surface liquid film of bubbles where it acts as a surfactant and reduces the film strength. The result is that the film readily ruptures and a stable foam does not form. In this way a uniform boiling / flashing action is achieved and carryover is minimized.

RK’s antifoam is a highly effective liquid product used to control foaming in all types of seawater distillation plants and is particularly suitable for use in multi-stage flash plants.

  • RK’s antifoam contains a mixture of alkoxane copolymers. As such it is water soluble, miscible in all proportions.
  • Due to its negligible steam volatility, there is no carryover of RKFOAM into the distillate.
  • Activity is not dependent on temperature. There is no need to alter the dose level if top brine temperature (TBT) changes.
